Blue Morpho Painting on View at Sakku Art Virtual Exhibition
I’m delighted to share that my painting of the Blue Morpho (Morpho menelaus) is currently exhibited at the Sakku Quarterly Virtual Exhibition (6th Edition).
To celebrate, I wanted to share a few fascinating facts about this extraordinary butterfly.
The Blue Morpho is one of the largest butterflies in the world, with a wingspan of up to 15 cm. It is found in the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, including the Amazon region, and is best known for its luminous, shimmering blue wings. But here is the wonder: it is not actually blue!
The colour comes from the butterfly’s wing structure: microscopic, diamond-shaped scales reflect and scatter light in a way that creates that electric blue glow. As the butterfly moves, the colour appears to shift and flicker. In other words, we are not simply seeing blue; we are seeing light doing something magical!
Blue butterflies are often associated with luck, positive change, calm, and emotional healing. Because they are rare in nature, encountering one can feel like a small blessing, a sign that a new season may be beginning.
If you would like to view my Blue Morpho painting, it is on display from 10 February to 10 March at Sakku Art, where you can also vote for your favourite artwork: https://www.sakkuart.com
